Jane Photo 2022

On a weekend dedicated to the power of words, come and join artist Jane Thakoordin in a zine making workshop. Together we will create beautiful, unique fanzines, celebrating everything precious to us.

(Zines are handmade, often one-off little books)

Using upcycled materials, repurposed fabric, magazines, and newspapers we will spend time thinking, planning and making zines both to take away, and to contribute to a collaborative online zine for PoliNations. Whatever it is that makes you, YOU - lets capture it in your zine.

All materials supplied, but please feel free to bring along any pictures, photos or images of your own.

Jane is a participatory artist which means that the work she creates is always in collaboration with others. A great fan of the bright, bold and beautiful, her practice is rooted in her Guyanese heritage, celebrating colour and texture in the work that she produces with groups and organisations both locally and regionally. Jane uses textiles, found objects, upcycled “stuff” often donated by people who know her penchant for the eclectic and colourful.

Jane draws on her professional experiences as a mental health practitioner, social worker and University lecturer to link creativity and wellbeing. Jane is a founder/member of MIXED RAGE - a collective of artists of mixed heritages, who recently exhibited at MAC in Birmingham. A recipient of a THRIVE Research bursary, Jane is currently working with Universities and Youth projects to interrogate the language of mental health and wellbeing, using textiles and zine making as methods of engagement.
